CrossFit can enable any person the ability to improve their physical fitness, their ability to day-to-day activities more efficiently, and their ability to prevent disease. No matter of their height, weight, and age. This is why at CrossFit Kernow, we have specifically designed a class for the older individual.

We know with ageing comes its struggles of day-to-day life and what was once a simple task may become more challenging. But a factor that may contribute to this is a loss of muscle mass and strength with unfortunately comes as age increases. But done regularly, strength training will build muscle strength and muscle mass in addition to reduce the risk of osteoporosis and the signs and symptoms of numerous chronic diseases such as heart disease, arthritis, and type 2 diabetes, while also improving sleep and reducing depression.

Strength training in the elderly (>60 years) increases muscle strength by increasing muscle mass, and by improving the recruitment of motor units, and increasing their firing rate. Muscle mass can be increased through training at an intensity corresponding to 60% to 85% of the individual maximum voluntary strength.”

As well as its physical benefits, training will come with its mental benefits and can offer a supportive community that can better ensure consistency in the gym and make workouts more enjoyable.
